Champagne Gamet - Le Cidre French Cider (750 mL)
Champagne Gamet - Le Cidre French Cider (750 mL)
Maison Gamet's Le Cidre (2023)
Le Cidre from Maison Gamet is made from a blend of primarily acidic apples (80% Avrolles apples) and a bit of bitter-sweet french cider apple varieties (20% blend of Harry Master, Dabinett, and Chanteline). This vintage was made with fruit from the 2023 harvest. Fermentation finished in the bottle, via the Ancestral Method, resulting in a natural effervescence.
TASTING NOTES: This cider drinks slightly off-dry with well balanced tannins and acidity (medium). Lively sparkle with aromas of apple, orchard floor, and soft woody sawdust. Notes of fresh apple, apple skin, lemon/lime zest, minerality, and twig. A very nice mouthfeel.
About Maison Gamet & their cider: A Champagne producer since 1920, Maison Gamet is a family affair, born from unions and successive generations. The Heucq family in the northern part of France's Champagne Region, in Fleury-la-Rivière & the Gamet family in the south of the Valley, in Mardeuil.
In the 90s, Fabienne & Philippe settled in Mardeuil to perpetuate their know-how and develop the notoriety of the estate. Joined by their children, in 2018, Marianne & Jean-François continue to lay the stones to the building and form the future of the estate step by step. Today, the estate is in a transition phase, where two generations work together, combining tradition & modernity, wisdom & ambition.
Their cider is relatively new to their array of wines, though it pulls from their family's traditoins. After the World War, in France, many apples and other fruit from private orchards were used to make alcohol; in this way many families started to produce cider in the East of France for their own consumption. Around this time, the paternal great-grandfather of the Gamut family was making cider in a small house located in Fleury-la-Rivière; nowadays the Gamet’s children are on a renovation project to continue the cider adventure.
Today, the young generation Marianne & Jean-François took the plunge to continue the cider production, offering a small taste of what’s happening in the Champagne-Ardenne region, next to the Champagne industry. The idea of Marianne & Jeff is find the perfect recipe to produce a cider that get the best expression of the Marne Valley, where the terroirs and micro-climates express themselves.
