Greenwood Cider - City Fruit Community Sourced Cider (500 mL)
Greenwood Cider - City Fruit Community Sourced Cider (500 mL)
This City Fruit cider from Greenwood Cider is made in partnership with one of our favorite nonprofits in the Seattle area: City Fruit. This easy-drinking cider is made of a diverse blend of community-sourced apples harvested by City Fruit's team.
City Fruit is a Seattle based non-profit that manages the "urban orchard" throughout Seattle. They provide tree care services and harvest from the bounty of fruit trees growing on public lands and private property throughout Seattle. The majority of the fruit that is harvested is then distributed to community meal programs throughout the city - including food banks, Fruit for All giveaways in each neighborhood in Seattle, student meal programs, and more. In a typical year, nearly 50,000 pounds of fruit that would otherwise go to waste is diverted to the community. A small percentage of the fruit harvested includes crabapples and cider apple varieties that aren't great for eating - but make incredible ciders. Those are purchased by a couple cideries in town, including Greenwood, who make delightful ciders like this one with the fruit. A delicious way to support a great organization and their efforts!
Proceeds from each bottle purchased result in a contribution to City Fruit by both Greenwood Cider, and by us.
About Greenwood Cider: Founded in the Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle in 2015, Greenwood Cider turn waste into resource by making cider from forgotten and foraged fruits picked from around the city and deep within the Pacific Northwest forest. That approach continues today. In addition to the more standard Washington apples, they use apples from local farms, small homesteads, and abandoned orchards. Greenwood Cider presses the fruit and crafts all of their small batch ciders in the Seattle city limits - which is unique compared to the larger brands that buy truckloads of juice and fruit purees to manufacture their ciders. It's an uncompromising blend of modern tastes and traditional cider-making. Their cider releases range from traditional ciders made with cider specific and heirloom apple varieties, to modern style ciders that are lower in complexity and flavored with other fruits and botanicals. They're one of a small number of cideries that make a wide range of many different cider styles very well.
