About Harrison apples: Considered by many to be the finest cider apple variety to originate in the United States, the Harrison apple dates back to the 1700s in New Jersey. Harrison apples were thought to be extinct - but a tree was found in 1976 in New Jersey and was brought back from extinction. This apple variety has become increasingly popular during the American Cider Renaissance the last several years. Harrison apples are rich in body boasting soft tannins, flavors of orange peel, coriander, tangerine, and subtle earthy and minerality notes.
Rootwood Cider's Harrison is a semi-dry cider is full of juicy apple brightness with notes of apple skin, dried pineapple, and tropical mango flavors with a warm sherry-like finish. It has medium-plus acidity, and medium minus tannins.
Why we love Rootwood Cider: Rootwood Cider makes exceptional ciders from right near the heart of the Apple Capital of the World. Using fruit grown on their family's estate orchard in Lake Chelan, Washington - this fifth generation apple family makes some of Washington State's best ciders. Run by three sisters - Emily, Kate, and Anna Koenig - in a region that is well-known today for its wine but with historical roots in apple-growing, the Koenig sisters are keeping their family's 100+ year apple farming traditions alive through cider - cheers to that!
