Alpenfire Cider - Garden Gate (750 mL)

Alpenfire Cider - Garden Gate (750 mL)
Alpenfire Cider's Garden Gate is a limited release, small batch cider from the cidery's Burnt Branch Reserve Series. Alpenfire's Burnt Branch Series is mostly reserved for their own Cider Club members and for pouring at their orchard based tasting room in Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula. Snag this while you can!
Made from a blend of apples & pears growing just inside their garden's gate. Alpenfire Cider was the first certified organic cidery in the Western U.S. This blend includes organic apples (early Fuji, Kings, Liberty, and Red Gravenstein) and Perry Pears (Blakeny, Hendre Huffcapp, and Niijisseki). This batch is from the 2023 harvest. Dark gold in color, lightly tannic and complex with just a hint of residual sugars from the pear (drinks off-dry). Delightful.
Tasting Notes: Dry cider with medium-plus to high acid, and light tannins (slightly bitter tannins, not much astringency). Aromas of tropical pineapple and cooked apple. Flavor notes of crisp apple at first, followed by cooked pineapple and a wave of red grapefruit and citrus peel (pith). The acidity persists through the palate with the grapefruit. Finishes bone dry with a linger of apple skins and a minerality. Let it warm up and you'll notice some delightful apple leather notes.
About Alpenfire Cider: Alpenfire was one of Washington State's first commercial cideries when they opened in 2006. For two decades since then, they've been very consistently releasing some of the finest craft ciders in North America. Alpenfire was also the first American cidery to obtain a certified organic designation. Their family's estate orchard in Port Townsend on the Olympic Penninsula includes around 1,000 English, French, and Heirloom apple trees. Operated by Bear and Nancy Bishop, and their son Phillipe - to the Bishop family organic is not an option but a necessity - a necessity that keeps them in touch with nature and helps to create the kind of future they want for their family and the planet.
Alpenfire is usually Erik's answer to the question "which cidery is your favorite?".
