Staff Picks: Storie's Favorite Ciders For Fall (6-Pack)
Staff Picks: Storie's Favorite Ciders For Fall (6-Pack)
My staff picks feature a variety of different ciders that have stood out in recent months as something I want in my glass during these dark fall and winter days.
Pssst: The 12-bottle bundle includes both my picks and Erik's current staff picks and comes at a discount (basically a free cider if you buy both bundles).
*Note the ciders pictured are not necessarily what is in the bundle; what's listed below is what is included in this bundle.

1. Eve's Cidery - Golden Russet Cider (750 mL) - A single-varietal cider made from 100% Golden Russets, one of my absolute favorite apple varieties for ciders. Lush and highly sparkling with mouthwatering juiciness that rinses through the bone-dry palate. Wonderful tropical and stone-fruit notes. Oh so tasty. |

2. Rose Hill Farm & Ferments - Bandwagon (750 mL) - A coferment of apples, grape-skins, pears, and quince, wild-fermented and aged in neutral French oak barrels. Bottle conditioned with fresh apple juice and aged for an additional year. Great aromas of pear, rose, and pastry dough. Slightly off-dry and tart with balanced tannins and acidity. Bright and magnifique. |
|
3. Presque Isle Farm Cider - Pride (750 mL) - Slightly off-dry with balanced & bold tannins and acidity. Aromatics of fresh apples, candied peach, and pear - like the essence of the fruit cups of (my) childhood. Crisp, tart, and well balanced with citrus zest, apricot, and floral notes. Much needed sunshine in a glass for these dark days. |

4. Finnriver Farm and Cidery - Fire Barrel (750 mL) - A throwback to my cider origin story - Finnriver ciders were my gateway into cider-drinking in 2010. Shortly after, I discovered a cider called Fire Barrel, made from a cidery called Red Barn, which was a go-to at my local watering hole at the time. When Red Barn closed in 2013, Finnriver actually dug up 1,000 apple trees from Red Barn and moved them to their orchard on the other side of Puget Sound in WA State. They've been making Fire Barrel cider ever since and I still love it after all these years. Made from a blend of 100% organically grown cider apples, this cider is semi-dry with rich, leathery tannins and warm whisky character and creamy vanilla notes from the barrel aging. The perfect cider for staying cozy inside. |

5. Haykin Family Cider - Northern Spy (750 mL) - Semi-dry cider made from 75% Northern Spy apples, blended 25% with Golden Russet apples. We wanted to feature this in our Cider Club, but there weren't enough cases available. Mouthwatering acidity and light chewy tannins. Delightful fresh apple and pear notes up front, with dried pineapple, and light lemon notes riding the acidity through the mid-palate and the finish. Crisp and fresh! |
|
6. The Cider Farm - Tremlett's (500 mL) - Made from a blend of Tremlett's Bitter and Priscilla apples. Tremlett's Bitter is an English bittersharp apple variety prized by cidermakers for its tannins and acidity. Priscilla is an American cultivar that's sweet and offers great floral aromatics. Off-dry with notes of tart green apple and pineapple and a nice lingering finish. Juicy and refreshing. |
