Greenwood Cider - Scrumpy (500 mL)
Greenwood Cider - Scrumpy (500 mL)
What is a Scrumpy Cider?
Scrumpy is a style of cider that originally was made in West Country, England, and traditionally was considered a "rough" cider - meaning less consideration was given for the apples blended into the cider, and that it was allowed to ferment to complete dryness. The result was a dry cider, often strong in tannins, and higher in alcohol - especially relative to the sweeter, low ABV ciders that were more commonly consumed at the time.
This Greenwood Scrumpy is very true to style and reminds us of many ciders we enjoyed during a vacation we took to West Country. Greenwood uses an unknown blend of end-of-the-season apples picked from an orchard in the Cascade foothills. This heirloom cider is dry, has robust tannins, and a bit earthy with a strong apple aroma.
