Good Cider for a Great Cause - 100% of the proceeds form purchases of this cider go to City Fruit, a Seattle based non-profit that takes care of fruit trees throughout Seattle, and annually harvests and distributes fruit to over 50 Seattle community partners–food banks, meals programs and schools–in order to support equitable access to healthy, local foods.
Seattle Cider's Winter Banana is a a single-variety cider made 100% from Winter Banana apples. Winter Banana is an American heirloom apple variety originally found growing and propagated in Indiana. Once a prized apple for it's beautiful yellow color and blush freckles, it was often found in elaborate fruit baskets back when that was a thing. A dessert or eating apple, this variety still finds its way into some blends but is rarely available as a single-variety cider.
We rescued these bottles, and are making them available with all proceeds benefiting one of our favorite Seattle area (and cider adjacent) non-profits, City Fruit. Cheers to the team from Seattle Cider Company, who have always been a great supporter of City Fruit.
Originally launched in 2013, Seattle Cider grew to be one of the biggest cider brands in the U.S. Their cider offerings have evolved over time, and for a brief period they were making small batch, single-variety ciders in 750 ML bottles like this Winter Banana bottle. Thought to be long gone, we discovered these bottles buried in their warehouse when Seattle Cider was preparing to move to Corvallis, Oregon after being acquired by 2 Towns Cider in 2026. We were picking up bottles of the latest release of City Fruit cider, and were given chance to grab these bottles too before they were dumped and destroyed.
This cider is somewhere in the neighborhood of 7-8 years old, we can't quite recall when Seattle Cider was selling these SV offerings. We cracked a bottle open recently (October 2026) and it is tasting great.
Tasting Notes: Nice aromatics in this cider - notes of green grape and fresh apples. Semi-dry with medium-plus acidity and low tannins. This cider will appeal to white wine drinkers. Tart, clean, crisp, and tropical. Notes of green grape, green apple, papaya, and lime zest. Finishes dry and crisp with a lingering lime zest tartness on the lips. Subtle earthy (twig) notes and lightly buttery on the finish.
