Snow Capped Cider - Medaille d’Or Single-Varietal (375 mL)
Snow Capped Cider - Medaille d’Or Single-Varietal (375 mL)
Snow Capped Cider's Medaille d’Or is a rare single-varietal cider made 100% from Medaille d’Or apples grown at Snow Capped's high elevation estate orchard on Colorado's Western Slope.
Medaille d’Or (pronounced may-die-door, and translates to Gold Medal) is an apple variety that originates from France in the mid 19th century and has long been used in cidermaking in both French and English cider. While this apple is classified as bittersweet (high tannins, low acid), it presents itself surprisingly in this cider with high acidity. This is attributed to the high-elevation of Snow Capped's orchards, which is a great example of the influence growing conditions can have on a cider.
This cider has prominent fresh pear aroma as well as tropical aromas of mango and lychee. Medium sweetness with a touch of tannins, and notes of cooked pear, peach, honeycomb, and mango on the palate. Finishes with a lingering fruity sweetness.
About Snow Capped Cider: Kari Williams' family has owned the orchards she now manages for more than 5 generations - though she's the first to use the apples for cider. Snow Capped Cider is crafted at an impressive elevation of 6,130 feet, making it one of the highest-elevation orchards and cideries in the world. Nestled at the base of the Grand Mesa - the largest flat-topped mountain in the world - on Colorado’s Western Slope. Their unique terroir benefits from high altitude, warm days, cool nights, and gravity-fed mountain water - which impacts the fruit in such a way that makes for excellent ciders. Their cider apples are grown exclusively in Colorado, adhering to traditional English and French orchard practices. Committed to sustainability, they craft high-quality ciders using sustainable farming practices, making Snow Capped Cider a zero-waste company.
Snow Capped has been on an impressive run the last few years at various Cider competitions, winning several awards for many of their recent releases.
