Eve's Cidery's Albee Hill is a still, dry cider made 100% from apples grown in the family's Albee Hill orchard. Albee Hill is Eve's longest running single orchard field blend - they began making this cider when they harvested their first fruit from the Albee Hill orchard. Each year this is the first blend Eve's makes with the season's fruit. Fermented to complete dryness and then left still (uncarbonated). Before bottling, the cider is blended with the best barrels in the cidery's cellar.
From Autumn Stoscheck, Eve's orchardist and cidermaker: This blend has varied a lot (both in variety composition and in flavor) from year to year because more than trying to replicate a style, we are trying to find the best expression of the pommage (growing season). That said, we hope that you’ll find a throughline from year to year. To me, that throughline is very much this goldenrod/fall honey/beeswax/petrol flavor that is almost always there regardless of variety composition. It makes me think of September on that steep site, when the goldenrods and asters bloom gloriously against the crisp fall sky, literally buzzing with bees. I’m not sure if it’s possible for apples to be infused with the essence of the native flora and fauna but at least I like to imagine it.
We have been in Eve's cider club since visiting their farm several years ago, and our annual bottles of each Albee Hill vintage have been amongst our absolute favorite ciders of the year - not just from Eve's, but that we've enjoyed for the year period. A treasure and an honor to have this in our shop!
