Le Père Jules - Poire de Normandie Pear Cider (750 mL)
Le Père Jules - Poire de Normandie Pear Cider (750 mL)
Le Pere Jules' Poire is a fan-favorite sparkling Perry from the Pays d'Auge area in Normandy, France. Normandy and the surrounding area is home to some of the oldest perry pear orchards in the world. Many of the giant pear trees in this area are 100s of years old, and the resulting perry is a truly world class treat to get your hands on.
Le Père Jules Poire is made with a blend of French Perry Pear varieties, primarily Poire Verte de Manerbe, Poire de Blanc, and Poire de Grise. The pears are grown on the family's estate orchard in Normandy, France. The average tree age on their farm based orchard is 75-100 years. The pears grow on clay-limestone hillsides and sandy/silt soil valleys (French cider makers love to talk about their soil!). The pears are harvested in late October and left in a cool, dry room to mature for approximately 2 weeks prior to pressing. Natural/spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks at very cool temperatures for more than two months (low and slow!). Two rackings are done during fermentation - one in the middle of fermentation, and a second one towards the end of primary fermentation. The perry is then bottled still and each bottle is laid down in Le Père Jules cellar for several weeks where a secondary fermentation in the bottle results in a lively sparkle.
Tasting Notes: A zesty sparkling perry with fresh pear taste and floral notes. Incredible freshness and a clean pear taste with hints of pear drop and candied lemon. Semi-dry with medium-plus to high acidity and medium tannins. Boldly sparkling with aromatics of pear, leather, and honeysuckle.
Grab a couple bottles of Le Pere Jules Poire and pair it with a bottle of their beloved Cidre de Normandie or Le Pere Jules Pommeau de Normandie.
About Le Pere Jules: The story begins in 1919 with Jules Desfrièches – who had already earned the nickname of “Père” Jules or “Father” Jules – with a love for his region and its apples, decided to turn his passion into his trade. I 1923, Jules distilled Calvados for the first time. In 1949 his son, Léon Desfrièches, joined the family business. On his arrival, he created the brand “Le Père Jules,” in honor of his father. Thierry Desfrièches, the grandson of “Père”Jules joined his father in the business in 1976. Finally, Guillaume Desfrièches, Thierry’s son, joined the family business after he finished his studies in oenology in 2002 to become the fourth generation in the affair.
